Education and certifications help recruiters assess your qualifications. This is especially important for roles requiring DoD 8140/8570 compliance certifications.

Before You Begin

  • Have your degree details (institution, field of study, graduation date) available.
  • Have your certification names, issuing organizations, and expiration dates ready.

Steps 1. Open Your Profile Editor

Navigate to Profile > Edit Profile and scroll to the Education section.

2. Add Education Entries

Click Add Education and fill in:

  • Institution — The name of the school or university
  • Degree — The type of degree (e.g., Bachelor's, Master's, PhD)
  • Field of Study — Your major or concentration
  • Start Date and End Date — When you attended

Repeat for each degree or program.

3. Add Certifications

Scroll to the Certifications section and click Add Certification:

  • Certification Name — The full name of the certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP, PMP)
  • Issuing Organization — The organization that issued the certification
  • Issue Date — When the certification was granted
  • Expiration Date — When the certification expires (if applicable)

4. Save Your Changes

Click Save to update your profile.

Tips

  • DoD 8140 (formerly 8570) baseline certifications like Security+, CISSP, and CEH are highly sought after in cleared roles. List these prominently.
  • Keep expiration dates current. An expired certification may cause you to miss out on roles that require it.
  • If you are currently pursuing a degree or certification, you can still add it and note that it is in progress.
